I believe that the performing arts are for everyone. My goal as a performing arts educator, is to create an environment that is inclusive of all students, and helps them to challenge themselves while feeling supported and celebrated. Inclusion is an active process, and it must be thoughtfully and thoroughly implemented to benefit students.
My focus as an educator is on student experience and growth, and it is through serving these primary goals that I believe the best performances by young people are created. When students are the primary focus in the rehearsal process or classroom, they are able to reach their full potential in their performances.
Theatre is an artform that requires a diversity of skill from it's participants, making it ideal for fostering collaboration with young people. Theatre blends the world of visual arts, performance, and often music. Students have the opportunity to develop their communication skills, teamwork, critical thinking, and more through contentiously designed theatre curriculum.
